everyone over here always says, 'how's your mom and dad?'
and pretty much every time the answer is 'oh you know, same old same old'
and sometimes i feel bad because SURELY my parents do new things and lead exciting lives as only empty nesters can do. just today my dad told me that they finally have all the new furniture in place in our living room, making up for 35 years of hand me downs. (it's 35 years this year for mom and dad!)
but as the pic shows, it's nice to see that some things will always stay the same. like my dad. i'm bummed i missed father's day with him yesterday - even though very likely he would have BBQ'd his own dinner - but i definitely would have made the salad! and sorry to miss his birthday tomorrow! we'll get a chance to celebrate when they come to visit me in boston.
must dash to catch a train (in london - something i definitely do not miss!) i wish i had a bike!
happy birthday dad!

Hmmmm...exciting things as empty nesters? Well, we were God parents at Reva's Baptism over the weekend and then Dad hosted one of his delicous champagne brunches, we are hosting a cocktail party tonight at the Crow's Nest for 12 of our closest friends to celebrate dad's senior citizenship (55), and we're celebrating Chuck's 60th here in a couple weeks for 40 of his.. (Toerne ribs), we managed to hack out some honeysuckle and camellia in the front yard last night and then celebrate with greyhounds afterwards for not hacking at each other...35 mostly blissful years! And we really are still in love. Thanks for appreciating that some things never change. We love you!
ps. yes dad DID BBQ his own dinner (lamb medallions) and we missed your salad. And You! Molly ran to Shopper's for some corn and that was the sad extent of it. (We had feasted at lunch up at Delaveaga after dad's 18 holes) We are looking forward to BOSTON!
yippie? where are you now?
no one was as happy as I 55 years ago today,,now I know what a volcano feels like when it erupts,,this is a inside mothers joke,,going from a petite 5 foot ,,102 lbs, of a dancer, jazz, ballet, tap etc. to a 162 lb. of " JOY",,barfed 24 hours a day,,,unfit to live with for 9 months, after 21 hours of DISCONFORT,whoppee a bouncing baby boy,,6 lb. 4 oz. 21"long,,your first baby is brought up by the book,,if he sneezed you sanitiized the house,no one could hold him unless they washed their hands first,no loud talking in the house, the baby might understand after all he had two ears, pure white hair, china white skin,,a china doll could not have been more beautiful,we knew he would never do no wrong growing up,,not to mention the day he was going on a relegious retreat ,our sweet st. johns son,,at four in the morning we received a phone call from the out of town police,,YOUR SON, DWIGHT,HAS BEEN PICKED UP WITH A OPEN BOTTLE IN THEIR CAR,,,,nothing makes a father happier then to have to get out of bed at four in the morning and pick his son up at a police station,so just remember when you get a phone call at four in the morning,,,,,,it's just your dad and I saying happy birthday dwight we love you...
